What you can adjust

Two-stage closing speed

The main swing and the final latch are adjusted separately — the factory quotes 180°–15° for the sweep and 15°–0° for the latch. In practice that means you can slow the door down without leaving it too weak to push the latch home.

Adjustable closing power

Closing force is set on the unit itself rather than fixed at the factory, so one model covers a range of door sizes and can be tuned after it is hung.

The factory's own figure for cold-weather operation. Like the adjustment ranges, it is their claim rather than a result from a test report.

Taken from our own packaging label, which states it as a minimum. For context, EN 1154's durability test runs to 500,000 cycles, so this is double what the standard asks. Ask us for the test basis if the figure matters to your specification.

Inside the body

• Alloy steel gear, with the piston given three extra precision-finishing operations.
• Rack-and-pinion hydraulic action, with the closing speed and the latch controlled by separate valves.
• Imported seals and needle bearings, which is what the factory credits for its leak resistance.
• High-performance spring structure, so the closing force holds up over the life of the unit.

Choosing the right size

Wide or heavy doors. At this width and weight rating, G1600 typically covers shop entrances, wider commercial doors and heavier leaves such as solid-core or partly glazed doors.

The power size is 4, set at the factory rather than adjusted on site. Power size is the industry's way of matching a closer to a door: the larger the number, the wider and heavier the leaf it is built to close. Choose the size that matches your door rather than the largest available — an oversized closer makes a door hard to push open, and an undersized one will not latch reliably.

Check before you order

• Measure the door leaf width and compare it with the 1200 mm limit. Measure the leaf itself, not the frame opening.
• Tell us the actual door weight: our catalog's figure for this model still needs factory clarification, and we will confirm the right configuration for your door before you specify it.
• Exterior doors and doors in draughty corridors face wind pressure the specification does not account for. If the door is exposed, say so — it can push the choice up a power size.
