Decide this before the door is made

This is the one thing that separates concealed from surface-mounted in practice. The leaf needs a pocket cut for the body and the frame needs preparing for the channel or arm, and both are far easier at the door factory than on site.

Our catalogue cards for these models give the leaf thickness they need and the grooving and installation dimensions. Take those to whoever is making or preparing the door, and confirm them with us before anything is cut.

What you give up, and what you get

You get an opening with no visible closer and no arm across the frame.

You give up easy access. Adjusting closing speed on a concealed unit means reaching the adjustment points through the access provided, and replacing one means working on a prepared leaf rather than unscrewing a body from its face.

If the door is likely to be re-hung or the hardware changed later, that access question is worth weighing before choosing this pattern.

Checking the fit

Leaf thickness and the grooving dimensions come first: a concealed body that does not fit the leaf is not a specification problem, it is a door that has to be remade.

Then width and weight, as with any closer. Send us the leaf dimensions and we will confirm which of these models the door can actually take.
