Closers for fire-door applications
A fire door has to close itself, fully, every time, without being held open by anything that is not designed to release. That is the whole job. Below is what our fire-engineering series is, and — just as importantly — what our test documents do and do not cover, because a series name is not a certification.
Read this before specifying one
A series name is not a certificate. Our fire-engineering series is a product family; it is not, by itself, evidence that a given model is certified for a fire-rated opening in your market.
We hold a Chinese national type test that names one model, and conformity documents held by our parent manufacturer that name specific models in their own lists. Those documents apply to the models and the scope written in them, and to nothing else.
So: tell us the opening, the rating it has to meet and the market it is in, and ask us for the document that covers that exact model. If we do not hold one that covers it, we will say so.
What matters on a fire door
It must close from any angle it can be opened to, and latch. A closer sized too small for the leaf, or fighting wind pressure through an open stair core, can stop short of the latch — which on a fire door is the same as being open.
Hold-open, where it is used at all, has to be the kind that releases on alarm. A mechanical hold-open that simply stays put is not appropriate on a fire door, and our model pages say which function each unit has.
Nothing about a fire door is a place to guess a specification from a catalogue range. Where our catalogue gives more than one figure for a model, our pages show both rather than picking one, and that figure needs confirming with the factory before it goes into a fire-door submission.
